Yesterday I took the little guy (almost 2 years old!) on our multi-time-per-day walk to the wetlands across the street from our house. We were treated with so many (hundreds! I’m not kidding!) of teeny tiny frogs leaping across the paths. I was so happy that Benny noticed them, but I was just trying not to step on any and make a frog massacre of it :x
Hello Tuesday. And hello million (adorable) bunnies in our yard! Why so many? We haven’t mowed in weeks! (our mower is on the fritz and it’s not like we’re ever fast about it anyways).
This collection was inspired by a trip my husband and I took to South Africa in 2012 - I’ve long wanted to make artwork in response to it, but nothing seemed to feel right. Fast forward a few (ahem…several) years and I found that when trying to design my first full collection of fabric, South Africa immediately came to mind as my inspiration.
These images are inspired by so many wonderful memories - hearing zebras sniff around our stand-alone room in the middle of the night (in the middle of a game reserve), watching cheetahs run with such ease, coming across a terrifying snake on a hike up table mountain in Cape Town, the stonework in Stellenbosch, a rainy-damp run in Knysna (and beaching our boat in the bay) … and there was so much more I wanted to include, but just didn’t have space for. Hopefully that means there will be a second edition :)
Here’s to many more wonderful adventures and memories!
…and it couldn't have come fast enough. I don’t know about you, but I really struggle with the doldrums of winter like it’s my job. When March rolls around, I become a fake meteorologist waiting for the first 60 degree day to hit - watching the forecast like a hawk, and relishing in the first semi-mild breeze of the season.
I love everything about spring - the changing weather, the excitement of new little blooms popping up, the grass slowly turning green again, and my favorite, those days when we can have all of the windows open in our house - fresh breeze washing over us while we eat breakfast.
So here are a few little spring spot graphics - and cheers to the new season.
the story of the first print in the South Africa inspired collection
I’m working on a collection of patterns inspired by my trip to South Africa (in 2012) and I’m in heaven reliving these memories. Eric and I traveled to SA on our honeymoon and just had the most incredible time. We flew to Cape Town and over the next 3 weeks we drove along the coast, stopping for a few days here and there along the way.
Our first stop just outside of Cape Town was the Garden Route Game Lodge. It was breathtaking. We learned so much about the wildlife, conservation efforts, and environmental concerns in SA and we drove on safari every morning and evening through the land.
At the game lodge we had a stand-alone room, which was located in an area open to many (but not all) animals - and at night I could hear the zebras rustling in the bush just on the other side of the wall. So, it’s fitting that my first print in the collection was inspired by those zebras & the golden light of South Africa.
I loved making this pattern - it felt like it just poured out of my soul. I hope you enjoy it too <3
